Session 13: Friendship in dark places

The party battles a mimic, forcing it into retreat while evading nearby guards. Valsali is tricked by the shapeshifter and trapped inside its gullet but cleverly seals himself in a metal cube to survive. A guard unknowingly moves the mimic, delaying the party’s rescue attempt. Using magic and intuition, they locate their friend, and Rhyia persuades the mimic to release him. After resting and befriending the creature, they proceed with their mission. With careful strategy, they silently take down the guards, but as the last enemy falls, they wonder—did anyone upstairs hear them?

The adventurers, drained by a creeping curse, struck a deal with the shady merchant Naithis to steal documents from a heavily guarded warehouse. As they uncovered a hidden passage using a cryptic poem, danger lurked at every turn. Inside, Minerva battled a mimic, only for it to slip away. Valsali, tricked by the creature, was swallowed whole but used magic to survive. Rhyia’s empathy spared the mimic, securing their friend’s release. Moving forward, they eliminated the guards with silent precision—until a noise from above left them frozen. Had their luck finally run out?

The adventurers descend into an underground kingdom of Blackstone, where they encounter a divided society of Tieflings and Aasimar, and learn of the kingdom’s tyrannical past under King Mahakar. After reuniting with Minerva, they uncover disturbing secrets, including the identity of Seraphim, and are thrust into a high-speed chase involving a mysterious figure, leading to a refuge at Zarasha’s tavern. That night, the group’s nightmares grow worse, with Minerva’s dream of her parents’ death becoming a painful reality.

As they examined an ancient gazebo, venomous centipedes attacked, forcing a harrowing retreat down a spiraling staircase. Though they narrowly escaped, their reprieve was brief as Bullseye Jack and a cloaked, commanding figure ambushed them, setting the stage for a fateful battle.

Moments later, a pack of fleeing deinonychus and a colossal, purple-eyed carnotaurus emerged, forcing the party to face a monstrous foe possessed by dark forces.
